Tasks

Create, assign, prioritize, and complete project work.

Tasks

Tasks are units of work inside projects. They help teams plan, assign, track, and complete delivery work.

/tasks can switch between a list and a calendar.

What a Task Contains

A task can include:

  • Project.
  • Title and description.
  • Status.
  • Priority.
  • Due date.
  • Assignees.
  • Parent task and subtasks.
  • Dependencies.
  • Effort and progress.
  • Visibility.
  • Comments and attachments.

Task Fields

For exact required fields, accepted values, relationships, and validation rules, see Tasks Field Reference.

TitleShort action-oriented task name.
ProjectThe project where the task belongs.
AssigneePerson responsible for completing the work.

Task Status

Use task status to reflect the actual work state:

  • Todo.
  • In progress.
  • In review.
  • Blocked.
  • Done.
  • Cancelled.

Workspace views may group by status, priority, assignee, or completed.

If a task requires approval, its approval status can be not required, pending, approved, or rejected.

Dependencies and Effort

  • Dependencies are finish-to-start. Add a predecessor or successor in the task, with optional lag days.
  • Effort is estimated minutes. Split equally across assignees, or enter a custom split.

Team Drafts

Team members can submit draft tasks for review. Managers review them at /tasks/team-drafts and bulk approve or reject.

Draft tasks can also appear on sprint boards when 4DX Planning is enabled.
